Dedicated to the memory of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and granduncle.

John Abiodun Afuwape was born on December 25, 1930 in Lagos to our late Papa Laleye Osorinmade Afuwape and Mama Marian Shayoade Afuwape. He was the second child and first son of his parents. He had his primary education at St. Pauls Primary School, Ebute-Metta and thereafter proceeded to Blessed Murrumba Teacher Training College, Ile-Ife. He had a brief teaching stint in Abeokuta in which period he also sat for his A-levels and obtained a scholarship from the Catholic Mission to study Economics at the Fourah Bay College, Sierra-Leone (then a College of University of Durham, now the University of Sierra-Leone) in 1955. He obtained a B.A in Economics in 1958 and returned to Nigeria immediately. On the 6th of August 1960, Daddy got married to former Miss Agatha Adjuah Kufeji. They were happily married and had two sons. He lost his wife on the 27th of March 1995 and lived as a widower till he died. He honoured his bond to the Church by teaching for five years after graduation. He taught at St. Leo’s College Abeokuta and later was appointed the first principal of Origbo Community High School, Ipetumodu, a position he held till he resigned in 1963 to take up an appointment with the then Western Region Marketing Board which later metamorphosised to the now defunct Nigerian Cocoa Board where he rose to the level of Assistant General Manager. He retired from the public service in 1987 but stayed on till 1989 to oversee the winding up of the Nigerian Cocoa Board. He was a devoted family man with simple tastes and a quiet lifestyle. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings and a host of other relatives who will miss him dearly. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord, and let Thy perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
